T-Shirt Bra
The everyday workhorse. T-shirt bras have smooth, molded cups that create a seamless look under fitted clothing. They typically have underwire and light padding (for shape, not volume). Best for: daily wear under T-shirts, blouses, and fitted tops.
Bralette
An unstructured, usually wireless bra that prioritizes comfort over support. Bralettes range from simple cotton pull-ons to elaborate lace designs. Best for: lounging, light activity, smaller busts, or anyone who wants comfort over structure. Many bralettes are designed to be seen and can peek out from low-cut tops.
Push-Up Bra
Angled cups with padding at the bottom push breast tissue upward and inward, creating lift and cleavage. Push-up levels range from gentle (level 1) to dramatic (level 3). Best for: enhancing cleavage, adding volume to smaller busts, or creating a lifted shape under V-neck and low-cut tops.
Balconette Bra
A half-cup style with wide-set straps that creates a lifted, rounded shape with a straight-across neckline. The cups cover less than a full-coverage bra but more than a demi. Best for: square and wide necklines, off-shoulder tops, and creating a natural, rounded shape.
Plunge Bra
A deep V-shaped center gore that sits low between the breasts. Plunge bras work under low-cut tops where other bras would show. Best for: V-neck tops, wrap dresses, and any neckline that dips below a standard bra line.
Minimizer Bra
Designed to reduce forward projection by redistributing breast tissue. Good minimizers don't flatten — they redirect tissue to the sides for a sleeker profile. Best for: creating a smoother silhouette under button-down shirts and blazers, typically for D+ cups.
Sports Bra
Designed to minimize breast movement during physical activity. Two main types: compression (presses breasts against the chest) and encapsulation (individual cups for each breast). High-impact sports bras often combine both. Best for: any physical activity, from yoga (low impact) to running (high impact).
Strapless Bra
A bra without shoulder straps that relies on the band, boning, and often silicone grip strips to stay in place. Best for: strapless dresses, off-shoulder tops, and formal wear. Look for silicone-lined bands for the best grip.
Nursing Bra
Features clip-down cups for easy breastfeeding access. Typically wireless with stretchy fabric to accommodate size fluctuations. Some newer designs include built-in pumping access. Best for: pregnancy and breastfeeding.
