How We Picked These

We tested 40+ sports bras during high-impact activities including running, HIIT, and plyometrics. Each bra was evaluated on bounce reduction, comfort during 60+ minute workouts, ease of putting on/removing, breathability, and wash durability.

Quick Buying Guide

1

Encapsulation beats compression

For D+ cups, look for bras with individual cups (encapsulation) rather than compression-style bras that flatten everything together. Encapsulation provides better support and a more comfortable shape.

2

Adjustable everything

At larger sizes, adjustability is critical. Look for adjustable straps AND an adjustable band so you can fine-tune the fit as the bra stretches over time.

3

The jump test

Jump up and down 10 times in the fitting room. If you feel significant bounce on jumps 8-10, the bra isn't supportive enough for high-impact activity.

4

Consider a zip or clasp front

Getting a tight sports bra over your head after a sweaty workout is a struggle. Front-zip or front-clasp designs are much easier to manage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between high-impact and low-impact sports bras?

High-impact bras are designed for running, jumping, and HIIT — they minimize bounce with firmer construction. Low-impact bras suit yoga, walking, and weight training with lighter support and more flexibility.

Can I wear a regular bra to work out?

We strongly advise against it. Regular bras aren't designed to handle the repetitive motion of exercise, which can stretch the Cooper's ligaments that support breast tissue. This stretching is irreversible.

How tight should a sports bra be?

Snug but not restrictive. You should be able to breathe deeply without the band digging in. The band should stay in place when you raise your arms overhead.

How often should I replace my sports bra?

Every 6-12 months depending on how often you work out. If you exercise 4+ times per week, closer to 6 months. The elastic breaks down faster in sports bras due to sweat and stretching.
